LCD background lightness

I wish to buy some 16x2 characters LCD displays like the 162J. I need the best readability by low light with backlight switched off, so the background have to be very clear (I mean closest to white).

For example most calculators LCD displays are very good with a light gray background. But many avalaible 16x2 displays have a green background which is too dark.

I'm a bit confused by all the 162x variants and by the LCD technologies (TN, HTN, FSTN). Which one will be the best for that purpose ?

162H BA BW can be used as substitute for LM016L

I have a handheld signal generator intended for telecommunications purposes and it is fitted with a Hitachi LM016L 16 x 2 character display. The Display had taken a whack and was no longer functioning.

Since the LM016L is no longer readily available I compared the datasheet against the Displaytech 162H BA BW and found that it was a fairly close match both electrically and measurement wise. I decided it was worth a try so I purchased a 162H BA BW from Mouser and fitted it in the signal generator today. I can report that it works just fine.

can't read ILI9341 LCD controller ID4 (D3H) by SPI interface

I have tried to read ILI9341 LCD controller ID (D3H), but it doesn’t work until now, the EXTC has been high, the result as below:

1. The leve1 command read/write is OK. The leve2 command (EXTC should be high to enable this command) write is OK, read by FMC port is OK but read by SPI is fail.

2.ID1/ID2/ID3 (leve1 command DAH/DBH/DCH) can be programmed by user(level2 command D1H/D2H) successfully .

3. The LCD acknowledges data is different between FMC port and SPI port, for example the 09H command, the first byte data will be invalid, when read by FMC... (More)
