This is my first time wiring a TFT display and I have some questions about the display DT070BTFT-PTS1 :
- What is the maximum current draw from the display VCOM input supply ?
- Should LED- (pins 31 and 32) be connected to GND ?
- Should we provide external resistor to limit the current of the backlight LEDs ?
- Is it OK if my PSU 9.6V is shared between AVDD supply and VL (= 'LED+' - 'LED-')
Thanks in advance,
Hi Geoffrey,
First off, I would like to mention that DT070BTFT is EOL, and has been replaced with DT070DTFT.
We have sample schematics that show how to hook this TFT including power.

Hi,
Many thanks for your reply.
I have been told by Katherine the product was EOL but it is the only one available in stock at the moment. As we are fast-prototyping our solution, we went on with the DT070BTFT-PTS1.
Based on the similarities shared between DT070DTFT and DT070BTFT could you please confirm I can apply the DT070DTFT-IPS(-HB)-PTS Reference Design to our DT070BTFT-PTS1 ?
And could you give me an estimation of the VCOM current sunk by the display ? Or at least the max current draw you measured (or that I should expect) on the main 5V PSU as in your schematics.
Best regards,
Hi,
Ok. Yes, they are very similar, and the design is interchangeable.
Unfortunately I don't have the information you are requesting for 5V PSU.
Hello Ishimaru,
We are using the display DT070DTFT (much the same as yours).
Can we connect AVDD to LED+ and GND to LED-?
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards,
Hello Thai,
I finally did as in their reference schematics : I used my 5V PSU to control the backlight through CAT4139TD-GT3 chip.
Best regards,
Thanks a lot Ishimaru :)
Should we exchange contact? As I'm in the middle of developing hardware together with this display.
How are you driving the LVDS signal? (from which MCU or SOM?)
We pretty much finished the design, the PCB has been produced and the display is working. The reference schematics were good.
We use a SoM from Variscite : VAR-SOM-MX8M-MINI.
Pretty funny because I am using the same thing haha.
How are you talking to the display with the SOM? Do you need extra driver for it? Or is there any tricks should I know about?
I cannot find any information regarding LVDS on the Variscite Wikipage.
Sorry to bother you this much but this thing is driving me crazy.
No worries, that's because I struggled too 5 months ago that I answered you so quickly hehe. You don't need extra driver, it's only the PSU for this display that is a pain. Also software team had a bit of struggle to get it work at first (get the drivers in the buildroot etc), now it's OK.
VAR-SOM-MX8MM-MINI comes with an LVDS interface hence we chose this display because it was available to move on with our design.
If you have troubles with the SoM, I would suggest you to contact Variscite directly on their customer portal. That's what I did. https://varisciteportal.axosoft.com/default
